Yunnan is the part of China most people have not been to. The Stone Forest outside Kunming is a field of limestone pillars that has been eroding for 270 million years. Lijiang Old Town is a UNESCO site of cobbled lanes and canals under the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which you go up by cable car to the glacier park. Shangri-La is Tibetan, with the Songzanlin Monastery and the largest prayer wheel in the world. Between them is Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest river canyons anywhere.

Hotel – Rooms are twin sharing. Standard check-in is 2PM and check out is 12NN unless the itinerary says otherwise. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and fees. Children are arranged in the same room as their parents. If an extra room is needed, or for special requests, additional costs will apply.

Shangri-La sits at around 3,200 metres and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain glacier park goes higher again on the ropeway. Some people feel the altitude. Take the first day there slowly, drink plenty of water, and tell your guide if you feel unwell.
