Which Philippine Island Is Right For You

Free guide

Which Philippine Island Is Right For You

Every Philippine island photographs the same way, which makes choosing hard. This free guide compares eleven destinations by the kind of trip you actually get, so you can pick the one that suits you rather than the one with the best photos.

  • Three questions that narrow eleven destinations down to two
  • An at-a-glance chooser you can read in under a minute
  • What each place is really like, including who it does not suit
  • The strongest two-in-one trips, and the one rule that makes them work
  • The two monsoons, and why wind matters far more than rain
  • What to check on any domestic package before you book it

One email, the PDF straight to your inbox. Check your promotions tab if it is not in your main folder.

What is inside

Four parts, from deciding to booking.

Part one

Three honest questions. Whether you want to do things or do nothing, how much travel you will tolerate once you land, and how many days you actually have.

Part two

The chooser, then the destinations. Boracay, Siargao, Palawan, Bohol, Bacolod, Iloilo with Guimaras, Cebu, Davao, Dumaguete, Batanes, and Cagayan de Oro with Camiguin.

Part three

Combining two destinations in one trip, which pairings work, and the minimum number of nights that makes them worth doing.

Part four

Seasons and the two monsoons, then the four things to confirm on any package: the flight, the tour, the transfer and the ferry.

Who this is for

A good fit if you are

  • Planning a domestic trip and torn between destinations
  • Travelling with people who want different things
  • Booking your first island trip
  • Wondering whether a two-in-one itinerary is worth it

Probably not for you if

  • You have already chosen and want a day-by-day itinerary
  • You are looking for international destinations
  • You want hotel or restaurant recommendations

Questions people ask

Which Philippine island is the best?
The wrong question, and the guide says so on the first page. Everywhere photographs identically. What differs is the kind of days you get, so the guide sorts by that instead.
How many days do I need?
Under three nights, stay close and stay simple. The far islands like Batanes and Siargao need more, and a rushed trip there leaves people thinking the place was overrated when they never really arrived.
When is the best time to go?
It depends which coast. There are two monsoons arriving from opposite directions, and the guide explains which one affects your destination and why wind matters more than rain for island hopping.
Can I combine two destinations?
Cebu with Bohol is the strongest pairing in the country. Cagayan de Oro with Camiguin works too. Both need at least three nights, and four is better.
