El Nido Airport Guide 2026: Arrivals, Transfers & Tips

El Nido Airport Guide 2026: Arrivals, Transfers & Tips

If you’re flying into El Nido for the first time, the airport can catch you off guard. It’s small, it’s remote, and the moment you step off the plane, you’re suddenly surrounded by lush jungle and a dozen trike drivers calling out to you. Honestly, it’s a little chaotic — but in the best possible way. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about El Nido airport in 2026: which airlines fly there, what to expect on arrival, and the best ways to get from the airport to your hotel.

Let’s make sure your Palawan adventure starts smoothly.

Where Is El Nido Airport?

El Nido’s airport is officially called Lio Airport (IATA code: ENI), and it sits about 4 kilometres north of El Nido town proper, right beside the Lio Tourism Estate. Don’t let the name confuse you — it’s the only airport serving El Nido, and despite being small, it handles thousands of tourists every week during peak season (November to May).

The airport is a single-runway facility with a compact terminal. There’s no jet bridge, no baggage carousel in the traditional sense, and no air conditioning inside the waiting area. Think of it as a stepping stone to paradise rather than a polished international hub. (And trust me, once you see the view from the plane as you descend, you won’t care about any of that.)

Airlines Flying to El Nido Airport

This is probably the most important thing to sort out before anything else. As of 2026, the primary carrier operating flights to El Nido is AirSWIFT, a premium carrier that flies from Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) to Lio Airport daily. Flights take roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes.

AirSWIFT is not a budget carrier, so expect higher fares compared to what you’d pay flying to Puerto Princesa. That said, the convenience is massive. You skip the 5-6 hour van or bus ride from Puerto Princesa entirely. For many travellers, especially those with limited time, that trade-off is absolutely worth it.

You can check current schedules and book directly through AirSWIFT’s website.

Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines do not currently serve El Nido airport directly. If you’re flying with either of those carriers, you’ll land in Puerto Princesa and need to arrange ground transport. Check our 5-day Palawan itinerary for tips on routing your trip if that’s your situation.

Insider tip: AirSWIFT flights fill up fast during the November to April peak season. If you’re travelling during Holy Week or Christmas break, book at least 2-3 months in advance. Prices also tend to be significantly lower if you book early.

What to Expect on Arrival at Lio Airport

Here’s the thing: Lio Airport is nothing like the airports in Manila or Cebu. Arriving here is a genuinely different experience, and knowing what to expect helps.

After landing, you walk across the tarmac to the terminal building. Baggage is handled manually and brought to a small baggage area inside. The whole process usually takes 15-20 minutes from touchdown to walking out the exit doors.

Outside the terminal, you’ll find a mix of transport options lined up: tricycles, vans, and sometimes private drivers holding signs. There’s also a small tourist information desk inside the terminal where you can ask questions, though it’s not always staffed during off-peak hours.

One thing worth knowing: there are no ATMs inside or immediately outside the terminal. The nearest ATMs are in El Nido town proper, roughly 4 km away. Make sure you have cash on hand before you leave the airport. GCash is accepted widely in El Nido, but having some PHP in your pocket never hurts.

Getting from El Nido Airport to Town

Getting around El Nido is part of the adventure — on water or on land

This is where most travellers have questions. How do you actually get from Lio Airport into El Nido town? You have a few options, and the right one depends on your budget and how much luggage you’re carrying.

Option 1: Tricycle (₱150-₱300 per person)

The most common way for budget travellers. A tricycle ride from Lio Airport to El Nido town takes about 15-20 minutes and costs roughly ₱150-₱300 per person, depending on your negotiation skills. If you have large bags, the driver may charge more. Tricycles can fit 2 passengers comfortably, 3 if you’re cozy about it.

The road from the airport into town is mostly paved and in decent condition, but it can get bumpy in spots. On a clear day, the ride itself is lovely — you pass through jungle, small villages, and eventually the coastline comes into view.

Option 2: Private Van Transfer (₱800-₱1,500 per van)

For families, groups, or anyone with a lot of luggage, a private van is the way to go. It’s faster, more comfortable, and you can usually fit 6-8 passengers plus bags. CMT offers airport van transfers starting at ₱800, and you can book in advance so a driver is waiting when you land. That’s the kind of stress-free start every trip deserves.

You can book our El Nido airport transfer service directly — just message us on Facebook Messenger and we’ll sort the details for you.

Option 3: Hotel Shuttle (Price varies)

Many resorts in the Lio Tourism Estate area (right beside the airport) offer complimentary or low-cost shuttles for guests. If you’re staying at one of these resorts, check with them in advance. Some hotels in El Nido town also arrange pickups for a fee — ask when you book.

Option 4: Walk (Not recommended)

Technically possible. Practically, not ideal, especially in the heat with luggage. Save your energy for the island hopping.

El Nido Airport Transfer Prices at a Glance

Transport Option Approx. Cost Time to Town Best For
Tricycle ₱150-₱300/pax 15-20 mins Solo or budget travellers
Private Van (CMT) ₱800-₱1,500/van 15 mins Groups, families, heavy luggage
Hotel Shuttle Free-₱500 10-20 mins Guests of Lio resorts
Grab/Taxi app Not available N/A Not applicable in El Nido

One thing to note: Grab and similar ride-hailing apps don’t operate in El Nido. So pre-booking your transfer or negotiating with tricycle drivers on the spot are your two main options.

Departing from El Nido Airport: What to Know

Check-in at Lio Airport opens about 2 hours before departure, but it’s a small terminal so things move quickly. AirSWIFT recommends arriving at least 1 hour before your flight.

Baggage allowance for AirSWIFT flights is different from what you might be used to on budget carriers. Check their current baggage policy before packing, as fees for excess baggage can sting.

There’s a small departure lounge with seating and a few food stalls selling snacks and drinks. Not a wide selection, but enough to grab a coffee or a snack while you wait.

Insider tip for departures: Get to the airport early during peak season (November-May). Flights do occasionally experience delays due to weather (El Nido gets serious afternoon squalls during the rainy season), but the waiting area fills up fast and seating is limited.

Want to check typical weather patterns before you book? PAGASA’s weather page is worth bookmarking for real-time updates during your trip.

El Nido Airport vs. Flying to Puerto Princesa

This is a question we get asked a lot. Should you fly directly to El Nido, or fly to Puerto Princesa (PPS) and travel overland?

Here’s the honest breakdown:

Flying to El Nido (Lio Airport):

  • Flight time from Manila: ~1 hour 15 minutes
  • No long overland journey
  • Higher airfare (AirSWIFT is pricier than Cebu Pacific or PAL to PPS)
  • Fewer flight options

Flying to Puerto Princesa then driving to El Nido:

  • Flight time to PPS: ~1 hour
  • Van/bus ride to El Nido: 5-6 hours
  • Cheaper flights (more carrier options)
  • You see more of Palawan on the way

If time is your priority, fly to El Nido. If you’re on a tighter budget or want to break up the journey with a stop in Puerto Princesa (worth visiting for the Underground River), flying to Puerto Princesa works well too. Our Puerto Princesa Underground River guide has everything you need if you go that route.

Tips for First-Time Arrivals at El Nido Airport

This is what awaits you after you land — Palawan at golden hour

So you’ve booked your flight and you’re counting down the days. Here are a few things that’ll make your arrival smoother:

Have cash ready. No ATMs at the airport. Bring PHP or withdraw at the Puerto Princesa airport before boarding your connecting flight.

Book your transfer in advance. Especially during peak season, it’s worth arranging your airport transfer ahead of time. Tricycles are usually available on arrival, but for private vans you’ll want to lock that in early.

Pack light if possible. The smaller the bags, the easier the tricycle ride into town. If you’re checking in dive gear or large bags, go with a private van.

Download offline maps. Mobile signal at the airport can be spotty. Having your hotel’s address saved offline saves time and confusion.

Don’t skip the view on descent. Seriously. Window seat, every time. The karst limestone cliffs and turquoise water visible from the plane as you approach El Nido are something special. It’s your first glimpse of what makes this place unlike anywhere else in the world.
