Four Days in Coron

Free guide

Four Days in Coron

Coron’s lagoons are not at sea level. They sit inside the island, behind limestone walls you climb over on cut stone steps. And in the bay below, nine Japanese ships have been on the seabed since 1944, some of them shallow enough to see in nothing but a mask and a life vest. This free guide plans four days around both.

  • Why Coron tours are sold by stop list and never by letter, and the exact question to ask
  • A day by day plan for all four days, in the order that survives bad weather
  • Kayangan, Barracuda and Twin Lagoon, with the climb and the rules at each one
  • Which wrecks you can see in a life vest, and which ones need certification
  • Whose island this is, and what your entrance fee actually pays for
  • The two monsoons, and what happens when the Coast Guard closes the water

Four Days in Coron, the free 24 page guide from Travel with CMT

What is inside

Twenty-four pages, in the order you will use them.

Part one

Getting to Busuanga, the transfer into town, and the one booking rule that saves you a wasted day.

Part two

The four days themselves, from the town tour on your first afternoon to the last morning before your flight.

Part three

The sunken fleet, and the Tagbanwa ancestral domain the lakes sit inside.

Part four

Seasons, fees, packing, and an honest comparison with El Nido.

Who this is for

Right for you if

  • You want the lakes and the wrecks in one trip
  • You are deciding between Coron and El Nido
  • You are traveling between July and October and need a plan that bends
  • You have never dived and want to see a shipwreck anyway

Probably not if

  • You want nightlife. Coron town is quiet by design
  • You only have two days
  • You want a resort you never leave

Questions

Do I need to be able to swim?
No. Life vests are provided and required at the lakes, bamboo rafts are usually available at Kayangan, and kayaks can be arranged at Twin Lagoon if you ask ahead.
How fit do I need to be?
Kayangan is roughly three hundred and thirty steps up and over. Mount Tapyas is around seven hundred and twenty in one go. Neither needs an athlete, and both are easier if you know they are coming.
What happens if the weather turns?
Island tours are suspended town-wide by the Philippine Coast Guard, not by individual operators. The guide explains how that works and how to build a trip that survives it.
Is Coron better than El Nido?
They are different trips rather than competing ones. The last page compares them honestly and tells you which suits you.
