Greece and Turkey: The Visas

Greece and Turkey: The Visas

A trip to Athens and Istanbul needs two separate visas, and the order you apply in changes how hard the second one is. Get it right and Turkey becomes a ten-minute online form. Get it wrong and you are booking two embassy appointments.

  • Why the sequence matters more than anything else in this guide
  • Which Schengen country to apply to, and why the wrong one is a real refusal reason
  • The full document list, including the passport rule that catches people
  • What actually gets applications refused, from someone who reads these weekly
  • The Turkish e-visa condition, and the date trap inside it
  • A working timeline from passport check to buying tickets

One email, the PDF straight to your inbox. Check your promotions tab if it is not in your main folder.

What is inside

Four parts, and part one changes how you do the rest.

Part one

The order. Apply for the Schengen visa first, because holding one is what makes you eligible for Turkey s online e-visa. Do it backwards and you book two embassy appointments instead of one.

Part two

The Schengen application. Where to lodge it, the timing window, how long a decision really takes, and why planning around the shortest processing time is planning to be disappointed.

Part three

The documents, then the five things that actually get people refused. Most of them are consistency problems rather than missing papers.

Part four

The Turkish e-visa, the condition attached to it for us, and the working timeline that ends with buying nothing non-refundable until both visas are in hand.

Who this is for

A good fit if you are

  • Booked on or considering a Greece and Turkey trip
  • Applying for a Schengen visa for the first time
  • Unsure which embassy to apply to for a multi-country trip
  • Worried about a refusal and wanting to avoid the common causes

Probably not for you if

  • You already hold a valid Schengen visa and only need Turkey
  • You are travelling to Europe for work or study
  • You want an itinerary rather than the application process

Questions people ask

Do Filipinos need a visa for Greece?
Yes. Greece is in the Schengen area, so it is a Schengen visa application lodged before you travel, with an appointment and a document list to match.
Do I need a separate visa for Turkey?
Yes, but if you already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa you qualify for the online e-visa instead of an embassy application. That is why the order matters so much.
Which country do I apply to?
The one where you spend the most nights. If the nights are split evenly, the country you enter first. Applying to the wrong one is a genuine reason for refusal and it is entirely avoidable.
How early should I apply?
As early as the window allows, which is three months before the trip. Appointment availability, not processing, is usually what makes people late, and a decision can be extended well beyond the normal fifteen days.
