Offload-Proof: Leaving Manila

Your visa gets you into another country. Philippine Immigration decides whether you board the plane, and those are two separate approvals. This free guide covers the second one, which is the one that catches people out.

  • The three documents every self-funded tourist is asked for
  • Why an affidavit of support must be authenticated, and how long that really takes
  • Which profiles go to secondary inspection automatically, and why that is not an accusation
  • How to answer at the counter, and the one habit that causes problems
  • What a booked tour package answers before the conversation starts
  • The situations that need the longest lead time, including travelling with children

One email, the PDF straight to your inbox. Check your promotions tab if it is not in your main folder.

What is inside

Four parts, in the order the day actually unfolds.

Part one

What offloading is and what it is not. The screening exists because of trafficking and illegal recruitment, and understanding that makes the whole encounter easier to handle.

Part two

The baseline documents, then financial capacity. Bank certificate versus bank statement, what six months of history communicates, and which supporting papers do the work.

Part three

Sponsorship. The affidavit of support, the fourth civil degree rule, proof of relationship, and why the authentication step is the one people skip.

Part four

Secondary inspection, the Border Control Questionnaire, and how to handle the interview. Then the day itself, and what to do if you are stopped anyway.

Who this is for

A good fit if you are

  • Travelling abroad for the first time
  • Having your trip paid for by a relative
  • Departing again after a long period working overseas
  • Travelling with children, or without both parents
  • Nervous about the counter and wanting to be prepared

Probably not for you if

  • You travel internationally often and know the drill
  • You are looking for visa rules for a specific country
  • You want a way around the requirements rather than through them

Questions people ask

Why do Filipinos get offloaded?
Almost never for doing anything wrong. It is usually an incomplete file or a gap between what you say and what your documents show. The officer needs to be reasonably satisfied you are going for the reason you gave and coming back.
What documents should I bring?
Passport, visa where one is required, and a round-trip ticket as the baseline. Then whatever shows your situation, such as a certificate of employment, an approved leave, bank documents or school registration. All printed, in one folder, in hand luggage.
What if someone else is paying for my trip?
You need an authenticated affidavit of support from a relative within the fourth civil degree with proof of relationship, or an affidavit of undertaking. Authenticated is the word that matters, and if your sponsor is abroad it takes weeks.
Does being sent to secondary mean I am in trouble?
No. Several profiles go there automatically. It is a procedure. Bring your folder, answer what is asked, and stay consistent with your documents.
