Four Days in Seoul

Free guide

Four Days in Seoul

Seoul has five grand palaces. Four close on Monday. The one everybody plans their trip around closes on Tuesday instead, and people lose a whole morning to that every week. This free guide hands you the things about Seoul that are not obvious from outside, before you land rather than after.

  • The palace closing days, and why Gyeongbokgung is the odd one out
  • Why Google Maps will not get you around Seoul, and what locals actually use
  • T-money, and the tap-out rule that quietly costs tourists money
  • The exact hanbok rule that gets you into the palaces free
  • Bukchon’s enforced visiting hours, and the hanok village to go to instead
  • Cherry blossom season and fine dust season are the same weeks. What to do about it

Four Days in Seoul, the free 26 page guide from Travel with CMT

What is inside

Twenty-six pages, built around the things guides get wrong.

Part one

Getting in from Incheon, and which of the two airport trains is actually the right one.

Part two

The palaces, the closing days, the guard ceremonies and the hanbok rule in full.

Part three

Four days laid out, with a day trip that needs no booking and no early start.

Part four

Eating, including Korean barbecue etiquette, halal labelling and the vegetarian traps.

Who this is for

Right for you if

  • It is your first time in Seoul
  • You want to see the palaces properly rather than photograph one gate
  • You eat halal or vegetarian and want to know what is actually in the food
  • You are traveling from a tropical country in winter

Probably not if

  • You have been to Seoul several times
  • You want nightlife listings. This is not that guide
  • You are going for a K-pop concert and nothing else

Questions

Is four days enough for Seoul?
For a first visit, yes. Four days covers the palaces, two or three neighborhoods, a day trip and the food, without sprinting.
When is the best time to go?
May, or late September through November. The guide includes a month by month table and explains the trade-off with April.
Do I need Korean?
No. Signage and transport are thoroughly covered in English. A translation app handles the rest.
Does it cover visas?
No. This is an itinerary and city guide. Entry requirements change often and are better checked fresh.
