Five Days in Taiwan

Free guide

Five Days in Taiwan

Most Taiwan guides still send you to Taroko Gorge. The 2024 earthquake closed almost every trail it was famous for, with official reopening estimates running into the 2030s. This free guide tells you that plainly, then builds five days out of what is genuinely there, which turns out to be plenty.

  • The current state of Taroko, and why we send you somewhere better
  • The metro rule that gets tourists fined, and it is not what you expect
  • Which night market for which kind of traveler, and what to order at each
  • The northeast day trip: old gold-mining town, sky lanterns, no bookings needed
  • What stinky tofu actually tastes like, and the dares worth taking
  • Why a Taipei-based trip keeps running through a typhoon and an east coast one does not

Questions

Is Taroko Gorge open?
The road is open in timed windows. The famous trails are not, and several carry official reopening estimates around 2029 and 2031. The guide gives the full picture and suggests a better use of the day.
When is the best time to go?
October and November, then March and April. May through September is hot, wet and the typhoon window.
Is five days enough?
For Taipei plus the northeast, comfortably. The guide also covers what to give up if you want to add a second city.
Does it cover visas?
No. This is an itinerary and food guide. Entry rules change and are better checked fresh.
