Arctic Finland 11 Days 8 Nights with Airfare, Rovaniemi, Saariselka and Kemi

0
  • 11 days and 8 nights
  • Flights from Manila on Juneyao Air via Shanghai
  • Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle
  • Two nights on the Finnish overnight train
  • Minimum 10 travellers, guaranteed departure
  • Schengen visa needed, not included

Detail

This is the big one. Eleven days from Manila to Finnish Lapland and back, with Helsinki at both ends, Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle at Rovaniemi, four nights in the far north at Saariselka and Kemi, and two nights on the VR overnight train, which is how Finns actually cross their own country.

Saariselka sits inside the auroral oval, which is the single best reason to go in December and January. Kemi is on the Gulf of Bothnia where the sea freezes solid and the icebreaker runs. Between the fixed days there is a lot of deliberate free time, because this is a trip where the good things happen at night and in the cold.

Two departures only: 20 to 30 December 2026 and 16 to 26 January 2027, both ₱278,720 per person, which is USD 4,288. Minimum ten travellers and the departure is guaranteed once that is met.

Read the exclusions carefully. The airline tax, the Schengen visa and all the Arctic activities are extra, and the activities are the reason most people go.

What You Also Pay

The rate above covers what is listed under Price Includes. These are the costs that land on top of it. We would rather you saw the real number now than found it later.

  • Airline tax, ₱11,700 per person, which is USD 180. This sits outside the headline fare, so add it to your budget from the start.
  • The Schengen visa, PHP 12,000 per person. You apply yourself through the Finnish or representing embassy in Manila and the fee is yours. Start this months ahead, not weeks. A December or January departure means applying in the busiest season of the year.
  • Philippine travel tax, ₱1,950 per person, which is USD 30.
  • Travel insurance, which is not included. On a trip this long and this far north, it is not optional in practice.
  • The single supplement. The supplier has not quoted one yet. Tell us at enquiry if you want your own room and we will get the figure.
  • The Arctic activities, which are what you came for and are all priced in euros, paid locally. Northern Lights hunting EUR 150 or by snowmobile EUR 220. A reindeer farm experience EUR 90. A husky safari EUR 120. The king crab safari EUR 380. The Kemi icebreaker EUR 380, subject to its operating schedule and the weather. A Finnish sauna EUR 90. Snow hiking or ice fishing EUR 70 each, skiing EUR 85.
  • The Helsinki day trips, also in euros. The Old Town of Tallinn EUR 260, Suomenlinna Fortress EUR 40, Porvoo Old Town EUR 45.
  • Most of your food. Breakfast is covered at the hotels. Almost every lunch and dinner across eleven days is yours, and Finland is expensive.
  • Tips for the driver and guide, which the supplier leaves to you rather than collecting with the fee.

What to Expect

Booking Information – Upon booking, please expect an email from us with your voucher, your reminders and what happens next.

Airfare – This package does not include your flights. Book your own, then tell us your arrival and departure times so we can set your transfers and your tour around them.

Hotel – Rooms are twin sharing. Standard check-in is 2PM and check out is 12NN unless the itinerary says otherwise. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and fees. Children are arranged in the same room as their parents. If an extra room is needed, or for special requests, additional costs will apply.

Dates – The rate holds until 31 December 2026 and is not available over Christmas, New Year or public holidays. Rates are subject to change and all rooms are subject to availability.

  • Confirmation will be received at time of booking
  • This departure needs 10 travellers and is guaranteed once that is met
  • Rooms are twin sharing unless you tell us otherwise
  • Hotels may be replaced by one of the same standard if yours is fully booked
  • You need a Schengen visa. Apply early, because December and January are the peak application months
  • Two of your eight nights are on the overnight train in a shared two person compartment, not in a hotel
  • The Northern Lights are weather dependent and nobody can guarantee them. Saariselka gives you the best odds in Finland, not a promise
  • Several days are deliberately free. If you do not book activities, those days are genuinely empty

Day 1, Manila to Helsinki via Shanghai

HO1566 leaves Manila at 3:10 in the morning and lands at Shanghai Pudong at 6:35. You meet your tour escort at the airport. HO1607 goes on at 8:40 and lands in Helsinki at 12:55 in the afternoon. Transfer to the hotel. No meals included.

You arrive in Rovaniemi in the morning and go straight to Santa Claus Village, which sits exactly on the Arctic Circle. Then back to the airport. HO1565 leaves at 10:20 at night and lands in Manila at 2:10 in the morning.

FAQ

What does it cost?

Both departures are ₱278,720 per person on twin sharing, which is USD 4,288. The dates are 20 to 30 December 2026 and 16 to 26 January 2027. On top of that you need to budget the USD 180 airline tax, the PHP 12,000 Schengen visa, the Philippine travel tax and the activities.

Will I see the Northern Lights?

Nobody can promise that and we will not. What we can say is that Saariselka sits inside the auroral oval and December and January give you long dark nights, which is the best combination Finland offers. Two nights there, with a guided hunt available at EUR 150 or EUR 220 by snowmobile, gives you a real chance. Cloud is the enemy, not latitude.

Why are two nights on a train?

Because that is how Finns cross Finland. The VR overnight train takes you Helsinki to Rovaniemi and Kemi back to Helsinki while you sleep, which saves two days of driving and two hotel nights. You share a two person compartment and the toilet is shared along the carriage. It is comfortable rather than luxurious.

How much should I budget for activities?

Honestly, a lot. The husky safari, reindeer farm, icebreaker, king crab safari and aurora hunts are the reason to go to Lapland and none of them is included. If you took the reindeer farm, one aurora hunt, a husky safari and the icebreaker you would spend about EUR 740. Pick two or three and plan for them rather than deciding on the day.

Do I need a visa?

Yes. Finland is in the Schengen Area and Philippine passport holders need a Schengen visa, which this tour does not include. The fee is about PHP 12,000 and you apply yourself. Start four to five months out. December and January are the busiest application window of the year and appointment slots disappear.

What about the Shanghai stopover?

On the way home you land at Pudong in the morning and the group applies for China’s 24 hour transit free visa, which lets you out of the airport for a half day city tour of the Chenghuang Temple market, The Bund and Nanjing Road before the evening flight. It is included in the programme.

How many meals do I get?

Hotel breakfasts and the few meals listed in the itinerary, and that is it. Almost every lunch and dinner is yours across eleven days. Finland is expensive, so budget realistically for this rather than assuming you will find cheap food in Saariselka in January.

How cold is it?

Saariselka in December and January runs below minus twenty and can reach minus thirty. Kemi is milder but the wind off the frozen gulf is brutal. You need expedition grade kit: a proper down parka, thermal base layers, insulated boots rated for the cold, two pairs of gloves, a balaclava. Most activity operators lend outer suits, but not the base layers.

Can I have a room to myself?

The supplier has not quoted a single supplement for this tour yet. Tell us when you enquire and we will get the figure before you commit.
