Hulunbuir is the far north east corner of Inner Mongolia, up against Russia and Mongolia, and in February it is white in every direction. This is a long, slow loop across it: Hailar, Yakeshi, Genhe, Ergun, Manzhouli and back.

The Aoluguya reindeer tribe at Genhe is the part people remember, the last reindeer herding community in China. Around it you get the Fenghuang Mountain scenic area and its ski resort, the Moergele River valley, the Ergun wetland, a Russian bread culture museum, Hulun Lake and the border town of Manzhouli, where the architecture is Russian and the shops sell matryoshka dolls.

One departure, 19 to 25 February 2027, at ₱87,685 per person, which is USD 1,349. Six breakfasts, six lunches and five dinners are included, and the hotels run 4 and 5 star with a Shangri-La at Manzhouli.

FAQ

What does it cost?

One departure, 19 to 25 February 2027, at ₱87,685 per person on twin sharing, which is USD 1,349. There is no second date on this one.

What is the Aoluguya reindeer tribe?

The Ewenki community at Genhe, the only group in China that still herds reindeer. The visit is on the programme. The reindeer sleigh ride and the reindeer moss experience sit in the USD 120 optional package rather than the base price.

How cold is Hulunbuir in February?

Colder than Harbin, and that is saying something. This is the coldest inhabited corner of China outside the far north east, and the grassland has no shelter. A proper down coat, thermal base layers, insulated waterproof boots, two pairs of gloves and something over your face are all necessary.

How much driving is there?

A lot. Hailar to Genhe, Genhe to Ergun and Ergun to Manzhouli are all long drives across empty country. That is the nature of Hulunbuir rather than a flaw in the itinerary, but do not book it expecting short hops.

Do I need a visa for China?

Yes, and we handle it. You travel on a China group visa, which costs USD 40 per person, about ₱2,600, collected with your tour fee. It is a group document, so you enter and leave China together with the group.

What are the optional extras?

Two. The grassland package at USD 120 covers the reindeer sleigh ride, the reindeer moss and the Manzhouli observation tower. Beijing Universal Studios on the last day is USD 140 on a weekday or USD 160 on a Chinese holiday, and needs ten people.

How many meals do I get?

Six hotel breakfasts, six lunches and five dinners. You pay for dinner on the first and last nights only, which out there is just as well.

How much for children?

A child from 2 to 6 years old without their own bed is USD 50 less than the adult, about ₱3,250 off. From 6 years old local rules require their own bed and they pay the adult rate. Tell us the ages when you book.

What do I pay to hold my seat?

A deposit of USD 500 per person, about ₱32,500, within three days of confirming. It is non refundable and it cannot be transferred to another departure. The rest is due one month before you travel.
